This is a college level tranfer course, the second in a series where we will examine the poetics of life lived on the ground...as in rough and tumble, as in America at war with herself. This is a world art alone makes sense of, an artist's work is a gift freely shared like air...sympathetic systems aligned, the the fictive or imaginary worlds of possiblity simply an inhale or exhale away. This class is an opportunity to close your eyes and believe.

American Cultures and Book Report Response

The conversation after the presentation, which was more a paper presentation than a "talk," was more interesting to me. Since we'd spoken before about the book, I had a different expectation for the polished presentation.
What I would suggestion is a rehersal of the presentation of the Social Entrepreneur essay in advance and to not rely on the paper. Use powerpoint or other visual clues to stay more connected to the audience whose attention wanders.
I am looking forward to reading the essay, which I think works better on paper than as a talk; similarly, your American Cultures presentation had the same shortcomings.
When one is talking to an audience, eye contact and visuals help the audience stay connected to the presenter. It also keeps them awake. The outline helped, but again it wasn't illustrated. The American flag jusxtaposed with the Peruvian flag was a great visual, but we hung it after your talk. Actually, I didn't know your presentation was on the American Flag until I read the title of your paper.
I enjoyed both talks. You have a grasp of your materials which is communicated in both formal and casual conversations, so it is always a pleasure to listen to you speak.I especially like your knowledge of history and the infomation you share about your life which enlarges the conversation and deepens the discussion on American Culture or Life Imagined by Ahab.

Mauricio’s book report on the book Call Me Ahab was very well spoken and he discussed a lot of details. The nonfictional book Call Me Ahab was short stories about different people out of the author’s imagination or real life situations, some of the stories were Frido Kahlo, Hellen Keller, about a girl who was blind and was talk by touching and feeling. The other story discussed a man who lived in New York around poverty times had to go and apply for food stamps and the difficulties he suffered through to get them and what they gave him in the end. The last story he discussed was Moby Dick, which was about a whale that was targeted for extinction by a captain he bit the leg off of named Ahab and destroyed his boat, now Ahab was out for revenge and wanted Moby Dick at all cost.

Self Reflection
I think that professor Sabir is right. I should have talk more about the impressions of what the book left me than what I wrote on the essay. It is easy to say than to accomplish because the book gets so complicated that I end up talking about what I wrote instead of my impressions.
For the next time I would just write notes and talk about them and expand about it.

Coca Cola is founded here in United States in Atlanta around 1880’s by Jon Pemberton.
Coca Cola can be automatically associated with being Western and Modern Culture and American Culture is a Western Culture
United States has the highest consumption Rate. In an average, in one year 1 person in America drinks 97 liters of Coca Cola whereas in other country a person drinks 25 liters in a year
As a foreign student, when I thought about America, things that came to mind were Statue of Liberty, Empire State, McDonalds, hamburgers and Coca cola
Coca Cola was immensely popular with all the American Soldiers of World War II, which is how the soft drink got popularized around the world
From 6 years old kid to a 60 year old man, on average they choose Coca-Cola over other soft drinks.
Coca Cola’s slogan “Enjoy Happiness” reflects the essence of American Culture, which is to enjoy your life, and be happy.
Coca Cola has been continuously had the same product, and yet America has accepted it. Coca Cola is still very popular from which we can assume that majority of America has been accepting it for a very long time so it is safe to say that it is infused into this culture.
Coca Cola can be found anywhere in all of America. Birthday Parties, County Fairs. It is found in Bars, Clubs, Corporate Events, Fast Foods restaurants. Let’s say in almost every places all over world.
Although coca cola is now a world Culture, even today “coca cola” is thought of to be “American” around rest of the world.

I really liked the essay written by Mauricio on the book named "Call Me Alab." He clearly describes how the writer,Finger, tries to compare the real people with the help of his characters in the stories. I think the writer wants reader to know what the real world is like and how people in this world survive and pretends to be happy despite a lot of pain in heart. There are some situation where he talked about feelings and touching which is very sensitive. He has also mentioned about lesbian and gay of this modern world. He has also talked about the life of disable people, how they live their life, how they fulfill their sexual desire. writer has also described the characters very personally which makes the reader little confused. Overall, i think the essay is great and it makes clear what the book wants to tell its reader.
Mauricio: You seemed to just read your paper rather than actually tell us what your book was about. Overall, your presentation was good and your paper was phenomenal.
