Check out this website

Today students are evaluating websites. This website is a really fantastic medium for filmmakers out of Canada. Some students elected to evaluate it; however, all students are encouraged to visit it and listen to a few of the interviews: http://highrise.nfb.ca/ The director Katerina Cizek was a guest on my radio show October 27, 2010 in the first hour: www.blogtalkradio.com/wandas-picks She has a film in the United Nations Association Film Festival 2010: The Bicycle. Visit www.unaff.org The films are screening through October 31 at Stanford University.

This assignment is a part of the Library Assignment sheet I gave to students connected to the Social Entrepreneur assignment. The questions re: Evaluating a Web Page are on the College of Alameda site. Look at Library Worksheets. Students paired up to complete this in-class assignment and then sent it to me as an attachment and pasted in the document: Don't forget to include both students names, if you were a team. Send to coasabirenglish1B@gmail.com

We then watched a video on Revision Strategies: The Write Course and worked on revising The Known World essays.

Homework is to continue reading the book you chose. Let's meet in A-232 next week as well both days.

When I went to search for information on the webpage Twitter.com I found that it has been up and running since 2006 and they have another site that people use often call Flickr. One day in a meeting a young man by the name of Jack Dorsey introduced the idea to create a page that is connected to SMS texting from customers phones as well as the website. I also learned that Twitter is based out of San Francisco CA so now i know its based out of the Bay area and not created in another country. Twitter offers lots of advertisement space for business owners and opens the doors for people to stay in contact with friends and loved ones that live in another country. Twitter has been sponsored by many companies but has also launched so many promotions like promtions of the AIDS walk and Breast Cancer Month. I think this site is a great site for those who like to keep up with the news and stay in contact with other business corporations.

I analyzed a governmental Canadian webpage called HighRise – Out My Window, the url link is http://highrise.nfb.ca. When I first start browsing around the webpage and going in deep the webpage I discovered that this website is a government founded entity (NFB), and that has been around since 1953. That gave this webpage a great deal of credibility and assures me that what I was looking at was well investigated.

This analyzing exercise also helped me to understand that a website is a composition and that it is pretty much like writing a book, a poem, or even making art or music. There is a message that the website developer wants to give and like any other composition, depends on the author how successful the message is delivered to the audience.

Evaluation of Facebook

I evaluated the famous social network, Facebook. It was created by a man named Mark while he was in college. He created this website in order to help people keep in touch with one another around the world.

Mark attended Harvard University and studied computer science before moving the company to Palo Alto, California. Christopher holds a Bachelor’s degree in Symbolic Systems with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University. David holds a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Relations from Brown University. David holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Cornell University and a MBA from Stanford University. He serves on the boards of the SEEP Network, a global non-profit dedicated to microfinance and enterprise development. Lori holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government. Prior to Facebook, Jonathan Heiliger was a technology advisor to several early-stage companies in connection with Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital. He formerly led the engineering team at Walmart.com, where he was responsible for infrastructure and building scalable systems. Jonathan also spent several years at Loudcloud (which became Opsware and was later acquired by HP) as the Chief Operating Officer. Earlier in his career, Jonathan was the CTO of Frontier GlobalCenter, and later founded Global Crossing's corporate venture capital group. Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. Chamath grew up in Canada and graduated first class honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Dan earned a Bachelor’s degree at Harvard University and attended the University of Michigan Business School for one year before joining Amazon. Sheryl received a B.A. summa cum laude in Economics from Harvard University and was awarded the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. She received an MBA with highest distinction from the Harvard Business School. Elliot holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government and a JD from Harvard Law School. Mike holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University and has filed two U.S. patents. Bret holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. Ted holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and a JD from the University of Chicago Law School. They are qualified to work with Facebook.

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. They seem to believe that the world is not connected as it should be so they created this site to help people stay connected and share whatever they please with their friends within Facebook unless it is negative.

This website is to inform, explain and persuade. Facebook wants to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.

Overall, this website is a accurate source based upon information they post because they do not tell any lies or false information within the site.
