1. Mauricio:POWER
-argues sex was used in a form of power to control Moses decision.

-quoted Moses on asking how blacks can own blacks.

In today's class many students presented their essay on various topics. All of them were nice. Most of them wrote their essay on power and social class.Among the the one presesnted by sara was effective in my point of view. she has made clear how slavery was preffered during that period and she strongly feels this kind of unhuman activity is completely wrong. she talks how humen were born freely but later they were forced to become slaves. The other essays were nice too.I liked how they described power plays vital role to determine people's status in society. similarly, they described about the social class difference in society.
i really enjoyed the class today.

Ahu - Power of Social Class
I like how she puts her own point of view in her essay. She said that she found intresting that black own black.

Sara - Power
She defines power in a good way from her point of view.
She quotes experts in the matter to suppoert her argument. Like when she quotes Russo to support the idea that all men are free.

Mauricio - Power
I think I kept the structure of a classical thesis. Also I think that my definition i should't quote the Webster Dictionary or Wikipedia and try to quote a more respected source.

Response to TKW essays’ presentations
Today we had three presentations in class and one of them was mine. My main subjects were power, social class and hierarchy within a society, characters’s behaviors and perceptions of life in their world in the TKW. When I was doing my presentation, reading my essay out loud realized me that I need to improve my counterargument.

Mauricio: POWER
He exemplifies the power issue with the sexual relationship between Moses and Caldonia and how Caldonia took advantage from this such as manupulating Moses. His main point of power issue is on how processes of power and influence can form the basis for problems encountered by individual. I enjoyed his presentation.

Sara:POWER
Sara’s argument was on power issue. She had many examples to support her argument. She argued how all man is free and slavery is wrong.

I like how specific your examples are of what you liked about the students' essays today. I hope you didn't feel bullied Mauricio regarding your use of the two sources for definitions of power.

I am looking forward to reading the revisions on Tuesday and hearing the other presentations.

I suggest students read their essays aloud before class to catch any errors and to familiarize yourself with the work, then you won't have to look as often at the paper.

Eye contact is important in a presentation.

Most of the students who presented their essay focused on the theology of power and how it was manipulated against slaves. Even though I had a bit difficulty understanding all the details, I agree with the overall perception. Ahu’s point of view was very clear and strong because Robbins manipulated Henry by convincing him that owning slaves is not wrong and the law will protect him. Also Sara brought up good examples and explanations on how Power was used against blacks.

reviews

Shante: manipulative power
- starts with the definition of m.p.
- describes skiffington and council and uses them as examples.

theme: rise and fall of upper income people.

I like how Shante presented her essay. Seems like a strong one. I like the ending where she ties all this in to current events such as the San Bruno incident and the practice of building over cemeteries (I'm a fan of "Poltergeist")

Self-Review of Presentation on "Privilege versus Personal Merit in The Known World"

I felt that I did good on my presentation. I looked around the room on occasion to see if people were following. The organization of the rough draft was fair and Prof. Sabir asked me about the refutation paragraph. I told her that the refutation was kind of scrambled inside of other paragraphs but luckily I have organized it in my final revision and it follows the appeals paragraph.

I got good feedback on the topic of the inner strength of Fern who represents the black women in the book. I would like to add that my inspiration comes from the fact that I see myself in the world as somebody who has to work hard on my education and my skills in order to manifest my dreams and ultimate goals. I'm not going to get it any other way.

Cory: His thesis was simple and to the point he said that slavery was bad. I liked how he did the counter argument and said that slavery probably was right economically but it was morally wrong.

Mauricio: POWER
I like how you brought out that caldonia used sex as a form of power. Because sex is used as a form of power everyday but no one talks about it. Im glad you went deep in the novel and found that example.

Buddhi review

theme: slavery
thesis: comparing slavery in TKW and in modern day life

I don't like the idea that slavery has evolved in modern day life. But I like how Buddhi brings it up because it is important. I feel like I'm enslaved to credit cards myself.

I wanted to add that people should be louder and clear when they present their essay.

Corey review:

theme: slavery

thesis: slavery is wrong and should be illegal

his essays starts with defining slavery and the essay then continues by using characters as examples: Henry, Moses, etc

Mauricio: He discussed power.
Sara: She discussed power.
Ahu: He discussed power and social class.

Ricardo:He discussed power. Ricardo seemed to have a lot of great ideas within his paper. I feel he can add a little more significant points and his paper will be excellent.

Sha'Quea (Me): I discussed sacrifice within the known world. I feel I did a good job besides my one mix up within my last body paragraph. I stayed on topic and had a strong thesis.

Shante:She discussed manipulative power. She had a strong thesis and made various significant points throughout her essay.

Cory:He discussed slavery and why it is bad. It would be great if he found an article and poems on slavery written by people who actually experienced it and put it into his paper. If so, his paper will be great and fully on topic.
